When are treatments carried out?

In season treatment – May - November
Knotweed can only be treated between the end of May and the beginning of November as spraying outside of the growing season has no impact. Similarly, over spraying causes the plant to go into shock and can force additional growth outside of the original infestation area or create dormancy without eradicating the problem which can come back worse.

End of season treatment – before / after first frost
We can commence with a treatment plan at end of the season. Most importantly the area must be fenced off to protect the infestation from any sort of disturbance. If the plants haven’t been affected by the first frost, we can apply a herbicide spray treatment.

Out of season treatment – January to March
We would carry out a Winter Mulching, which is where dead canes are cut down and left to naturally biodegrade on site. Legislation comes in to place where Japanese Knotweed is being removed from a site.
